Could 2016 end up one of the biggest years in video games?
For starters, video game players might see a new console from Nintendo make its debut, three years after Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PlayStation 4 entered the market.
Then there’s the long-awaited arrival of virtual reality, fueled by the expected launches of HTC’s Vive, PlayStation VR and the device that really drove the VR buzz — the Oculus Rift.
Of course, what’s good hardware without a strong selection of video games to play on them? The next 12 months promises plenty.
Here’s a peek at 10 highly-anticipated games to have on your radar:

1. Battleborn

Publisher: 2K
Platform(s): PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Details: Get ready to hear the term MOBA — Multiplayer Online Battle Arena — used often this year. Games like League of Legends and Dota 2 sparked a wave of similar hero-friendly action games from big publishers including this "hero shooter"  from Gearbox Software (Borderlands). Players compete in a variety of competitive and story-driven matches as one of dozens of heroes, each boasting unique powers and sets of skills.

2. EVE Valkyrie

Publisher: Oculus VR
Platform(s): Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR
Details: Perhaps the greatest showcase of virtual reality’s potential lies in this intergalactic dogfighting game from the Iceland-based makers of the popular role-playing game Eve Online. Players sit inside the cockpit of a space ship, attacking enemies with a variety of missiles and other weapons. Player will have 360-degree views, looking in all directions for potential targets.

3. The Last Guardian

Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
Platform(s): PS4

4. The Legend of Zelda

5. Mass Effect Andromeda

Publisher: Electronic Arts
Platform(s): PC, PS4, Xbox One
Details: BioWare has remained silent on the next chapter of its Mass Effect series since it debuted at last year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo. 6. No Man’s Sky

Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
Platform(s): PC, PS4
